Those early drafts can be messy but it's all part of it!

What exactly is manuscript feedback and how can it help your writing?

Writing a book can be a long and winding road. Just when you think you know where your plot is going, suddenly you're in a new and unfamiliar place that you'd never noticed even existed, let alone that it was a possible destination for your story. Sometimes, as a writer you just feel a bit lost. And other times, the whole book is finished, you're proud and relieved in equal measure, but you know it needs... something more for the next draft.

SureScribe's manuscript feedback can help you along this twisty path. Our professional, expert advice is given in detailed notes following two separate read-throughs, as well as via video calls if you want to ask questions about the feedback in real time. We offer our thoughts on things like:

  • readability

  • atmosphere

  • tone

  • plot arcs

  • characterisation

  • and more

Our process is detailed, finely tuned and personalised to you and your project. Whatever concerns you have, we can address them together and make your writing the best version of itself.

Here's what our process looks like:

  1. Discuss with you what your concerns are, how we can best address them, and how collaborative you would like the process to be

  2. Read through the whole manuscript and make initial, general notes on our thoughts and things we want to address closely

  3. Close re-reading with focus on the specific things you want us to pay attention to - we keep thorough notes as we read through this time, so they're much more concise and detailed

  4. Revisit any notes or ideas we jotted down that we think could be improved upon/changed to better suit your writing style/story/wants and needs

  5. Return the annotated manuscript and notes to you for review - at this stage we can either discuss things via email or on a video call, or you can simply review things in your own time without further input from us

It's entirely up to you how much or how little of our notes and suggestions you take on when you sit down to redraft your manuscript. We want you to be happy with your book when all is said and done, and that means you can cherry pick any of our advice to suit your needs and wants. Remember the golden rule of writing - write the book you want to read!
